Class 3

Welcome to Class 3!

This is the happy home of our Year 3 children.

The class teacher is Miss Tordoff and our Teaching Assistants are Miss English and Ms Sagna.

We have a busy/exciting term ahead of us.

Our term topic is

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!

In History we will be exploring the Big Question 'How have children's lives changed?'.

We investigate how children's lives have changed throughout time, closely comparing children's lives now to the life of children in the Tudor and Victorian times. We will complete a close study of figures such as Lord Shaftesbury, who had an influence on the lives of children in Victorian times. Towards the end of the unit, we will also look at common diseases past children suffered from and how effective the treatment was.

We will then be learning about 'Where our food comes from?'. As Geographers, we will be looking at the distributions of the world's biomes and mapping food imports around the world. We will complete a case study exploring the journey of chocolate from bean to bar, which we will then calculate the distance that our food travels. This will support our Maths lessons as we collect and present data on where our food from our school dinners come from. We consider carefully the benefits and cons of buying both locally and imported food.

The current book we are reading in class  is 'The Barnabus Project' by the Fan Brothers:

Here are a list of the other books we will be reading this term:

Jim a Cautionary Tale by Mini Grey

Black Dog by Levi Pinfold

Cloud Tea Monkeys by Juan Wijngaard

Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen

PE this term will be on a Wednesday and Friday, this does occasionally change based on hall usage, so please if possible have your PE kit in school Monday to Friday.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be given back by Wednesday. Our spellings are given out early, before we start to practice them in the following week. This is in order for children to have longer to feel more secure and more time to practice them at home. Spellings will be practiced daily, with the test on Friday. Please support your child's learning by listening to them read and recording this in their reading record books. Encourage your child to practice their times tables on TTRS!

For more details on the learning that will take place this term, please look at the curriculum driver.
